Fellow Alum Rock Parents and Community Members
As a lifelong public servant, I am excited to represent you and our community on the Alum Rock School District Board of Trustees. I was a student in the Alum Rock School District from Kindergarten - 8th Grade, and am a parent of children in the district. My track record is proven as a community advocate with decades of experience working directly with children and families. I have prepared myself to lead through years of experience as a decision maker on numerous non-profit boards, government committees, and on multiple city and county advisory commissions. I am ready to serve.
Over the past several years I have witnessed the dysfunction of our current board, and I am embarrassed by the lack of attention to our children’s education by Khanh Tran and Esau Herrera. I have spoken out against their poor decisions and their disrespect towards our families time and time again. I will fix the failures of the board majority so that parents in our community are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, and our children get the education they need to become the leaders of tomorrow.
What sets me apart as a candidate is the fact that I have the precise knowledge, experience, education, and training necessary to bring the change we need to our school district. As a former educator, I’ve worked closely with children, youth, and families to make sure that children, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, are prepared to be successful. As an appointed and elected Board Member and Commissioner for the City of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara, I have come to understand the complex thought processes needed to make difficult decisions. As a graduate and a parent in Alum Rock, I have lived the East Side experience, and I walk through life with great pride in my community, a community whose biggest strengths are in our resilience, our integrity, and our corazón.
This will be a high profile school board race, and has already become very competitive. Before I can bring our vision and passion to our district, I’ll need your help to get our message out to over 35,000 voters.
